My Favorite Christmas Tree (12 Branches)

Date Created: 12/2/16 (after several times of making these)
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Time to Complete: 30 minutes
IMG_20161202_234113.jpg
Materials Needed:
3/8″ grosgrain ribbon
Tree branches: emerald green, green print with ornaments or green print with snowflakes
Bow: red, white, pink, silver, gold, any color (saddle stitch, polka dot, pattern print, sheer glittery)
Trunk clip liner: brown or brown with polka dots
Jem or rhinestone optional
needle and thread for bow
hot glue
salon clip, badge holder, magnet, pin…whatever you are going to mount it on
Measurements: (and what the pieces are for)
(12) 2″ for tree branches
(1) 4.5-5″ for bow
(1) 4.5″ for trunk clip liner

Instructions:
  • Heat seal ends of all ribbons
  • For each branch, place a dot of glue on top of one end, place the other end on top at an angle to create a teardrop shape, leaving a small hole in the center. Repeat for all 12 branches
  • Mount 4 branches together. Mount 3 branches together.  Mount 3 branches together again. Mount 2 branches together.
  • Line clip with ribbon for tree trunk.
  • Glue bottom wrung of 4 branches near the bottom of the clip. Next glue 3, then 3, then 2.
  • Make bow topper and glue on top of tree.  Embellish bow.
Notes:
  • Tree can be emerald or any other green (but no one purchased the dark evergreen color) and everyone LOVED when I made it with the light green that had an ornament Christmas pattern with a red with white saddle stitch bow. I personally liked it better with the white with red saddle stitch bow.
  • Keep hole in loop small
  • Don’t angle bottom row in too much, keep in more level
  • Really Spread the 3 out
  • Glue each row together first, then glue the row to the clip.  The top most row will run out of clip and just be glued to the previous row.
  • If making it on a badge pull, simply fold the clip liner in half and glue turner for more stability. Charging $7 for badge pull tree, probably $6 or $6.50 on a clip

Reindeer Ribbon Sculpture Hair Clip

img_20150925_145002
Materials Needed:
  • 3/8″ medium brown grosgrain
  • 7/8″ medium brown grosgrain
  • 7/8″ dark brown grosgrain
  • 3/8″ holiday print
  • googly eyes
  • red glitter pom pom or red button
  • 5-6mm rhinestone or jingle bell
Measurements: (and what the pieces are for)
  • Head: 3 1/2″ of 7/8″ medium brown grosgrain
  • Ears: (2) 2″ of  3/8″ medium brown grosgrain
  • Antlers: (1) 2″ piece of 7/8″ dark brown grosgrain and cut (2) antlers from it
  • Reindeer’s Bow: 4 1/2″ of  3/8″ Christmas ribbon
  • Eyes: (1) pair 7-8mm googly eyes
  • Nose: (1) red glitter pom pom or red button
  • Bow Center (optional): (1) 5-6mm rhinestone or jingle bell
Instructions:
  • Cut and seal all ribbons, except antlers.
  • Fold head piece so that ends meet perpendicularly and glue, pressing down flat.
  • Fold ears so that end overlap forming a teardrop shape, repeat for 2nd ear and then glue ears together and very tip.
  • Glue ears onto back of head.
  • Create a template for the antlers.  These will take lots of practice to get them the way you want and take up the majority of time in the project. Once you cut them out, heat sealing them properly is what really gives them the shape. Once I get them even, then glue on the back.
  • Tie or sew bow and attach. Embellish with jewel or jingle bell.
  • Glue on eyes and nose.
  • Glue onto ribbon lined alligator clip.
Variations:
  • Pink bow and pink nose, or pink and green
  • Any colors to match dress or outfit
  • Mount on pin to wear on outfit
  • Mount on magnet for the fridge
  • Mount on badge holder to wear to work
  • Clip Reindeer clip on to bigger bow or mount directly on bigger bow for more bling
Originally priced at $8 in 2014, but dropped price to $6 in 2015 because I had the materials on hand and I was able to make them faster.
